Abstract: The Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV-) defect in diamond displays is an attractive 'solid-state qubit' for measurement based quantum computing. With a triplet ground-state that remains spin-polarised over a millisecond time-scale and an optically excited-state lifetime of 12ns, separate centres can in principle be entangled by performing 'single shot' measurement of the spin within a Barrett-Kok (or similar) entanglement protocol. Here we outline our approach to such measurements, in which we will use a narrow-linewidth pulsed excitation with a high-resolution scanning confocal microscope, and discuss some of the technical challenges anticipated.
