Abstract: We consider schemes for measurement based quantum computation in the formalism of Projected Entangled Pair States (PEPS). Thereby, we obtain a general framework for the characterization of resource states for measurement based quantum computation, and we are able to show the existence of resources with properties fundamentally different from the cluster state. For instance, we find models where the natural gate is a two-qubit interaction, models where the locical qubit is encoded non-locally, and models with non-vanishing correlations. This demonstrates that measurement based quantum computation can work with resources states which are different from the cluster state in almost any respect.
